Juneteenth is #blackindependence June is also LGBTPIQA month. Nationality is your #birthplace which equals #citizenship for some countries. For others it means where you became a citizen. #Ethnicity is your roots. #Culture is the traditions and arts within your ethnicity. African American inventors have contributed numerous inventions to everyday life. It's believed before Columbus, Africans and Native Americans traded with each other. Read up on Alphonso Jackson, Bob brown, Jackie Robinson black republicans who moved for equality for African Americans who are far different from today's Republicans who would do anything for checks and fame.
Science & #Anthropology says the oldest living modern day human was a homo Sapien with dark skin and came from Africa specifically Kenya. But do you see how those men and women can still be racist or ignorant or have their own biases? What do all the pictures look like when showing the oldest humans. Other #restaurants got wind of them. #WilliamKitchener took them out of restaurants and started putting them in bags that we eat from today, but George Crum is the creator of the #potatochip. But the credit went William. #Google should edit that. I always hear arguments like well did not create the way we use them today. William is the one who should be known. Then I always say then remove #thomasedison. Because #LewisHowardLatimer invented how we use 💡today. If he did not create those fibers that made it so for longer lasting light, we would still be in the dark. June is #blackmusic, #blackindependence month (1865). When I wrote this it was 2019. #Missyelliot first female #rapper to get inducted into #songwriter hall of fame. Black music can be heard around the world, and it is present in today's culture in the United States. Lima #Peru was once an African city. The top 10 countries with black populations outside of Africa are, 10 Mexico, 9UK, 8Jamaica, 7Venezuela, 6France, 5Colombia, 4D.R ,3 Haiti, 2U.S, 1Brazil have the largest populations of Africans outside of Africa.
In 2020 #ManuDibango: African #saxophone legend dies of Covid-19 in #Paris after catching coronavirus. Best known for his 1972 hit #SoulMakossa - is one of the first #global stars to die from Covid-19.The 86-year-old fused #jazz and #funk #music with traditional sounds from his home country, #Cameroon.
The #uniteddaughtersoftheconfederacy might have tried to change our history by putting up statues of racist men and changes books so it makes them appear different. Now in 2023 black history is being challenged again. History should highlight the good, the bad and the ugly. Painting a full picture of events. Not someone’s made up version of events.
When people say America a lot of times they are speaking about the United States and not the continents themselves. #Dembow a popular style of musical rhythm that came from #Jamaica, It's the beat you hear in Reggae music. Years later it's the beat you hear in #reggaeton. Reggaeton is adaption of #reggaemusic from Jamaica. Reggaeton started with a Black #Panamanian speaking Spanish. Later largely adapted in #Puertorico and #cuba. Due to migration this style of music, this Afro-Latin beat can be heard all across the America's. Dembow beat can be heard in #popmusic. It could be viewed as Whitewashing of the music. Why? Because it loses its cultural sound. #CUMBIAMUSIC a mix of #indigenous and African and #Spanish music. That is from #Colombia. #Brownstories or music from the African diaspora can be heard across the Americas. Shakira’s famous dance that comes from the African diaspora influence. Negro spirituals is the oldest American folk songs. That was started by enslaved Africans. #Lilnasx does #countrymusic that genre of music was started by black people in the rural south. Rhythm and Blue, Rock, Jazz, Electronic music, Soul music, Funk, Techno, Latin Music, gospel, Rap, Rock and Roll, Blue, dance, Sorrow songs, American folk, blues, yacht rock, doo-woop, disco, hip hop, house, hip house, Chicago house, Detroit techno rap, Bounce music, ska, cumbia, Bomba, Plena, Salsa and Merengue, reggaeton, samba, rumba, calypso, Soca, kwaito ,amapiano, gqom, afrobeat, Compas, Zydeco, Capoeira, afoxé,. They are all black music. They have influences from the African diaspora. They were either started by black people and later changed over time or can still be considered black music. Remember #LittleRichard #BettyWright, #CesáriaÉvora #andreharrel #timothybrown #ellismarsalis #billwithers. #RockyJohnson the first black Georgia heavyweight champion, his son Dwayne Johnson also known as #therock. The music world often has a colorism problem and to this very day in 2023 it has yet to change. Example of how bad it gets can be seen throughout history. Mexico’s first Black president is brown skin, Vicente Guerrero was Mexico’s first Afro- Mexican president. He is often depicted as having lighter skin and more Eurocentric features but an honest portrait of him was done showing his African features but it often not the photo that is used when showing an accurate photo of him. As you can see in the last photo.
For a long time even with movies like Blade with #Wesleysnipes, it felt like Black people did not exist in comics or sci-fi. Oftentimes black people are a token character or somebody that dies fast. Shows like #lukecage, Black lighting, Spawn with #Michaeljwhite, Meteroman was the very beginning. The cartoon Static shock & #blackdynamite was another one. #Dwaynemcduffie showed us with #milestonecomics all things are possible but even then, black stories get the short end of the stick.
I was very upset with #xmenfirstclass the movie. #Darwin is a mutant that can adapt to any environment that's his powers. Even when he can't say something his body reacts. If his body can do all that, how did he die in the movie! It felt like he was the token black guy in the movie. Sometimes even black animation is whitewashed. A picture on Instagram from the movie #thelionking was whitewashed by an artist on IG #ricardomango. I won’t post the photo here. When reading comments on people trying to educate him, you can see he did not understand the significance of whitewashing the animated characters. #Juliapennyworth is a mixed character in the comics with notable African features. But we saw a white girl on screen of Batwoman the tv show.
#BlackPanther is currently the only marvel film to make a billion by a solo marvel character. Even with the passing of Chadwick B it still managed in the second adaption to get close to a billion. It would have reached higher if people’s racism and sexism and homophobia wasn’t a reason for seeing the second film.
I showed a picture of the first vampire slayer that happens to be black. Sarah M. Gellar talked about the remake of #Buffythevampireslayer and who she'd like to play the role of Buffy and that is #Zendaya.
I showed photos of different black superheroes who may or may not get their own live action movie or animated series. We did get a cartoon for #moongirl. The #Watchmen was great, I wonder if we’ll see #Reginaking doing her thing again as #SisterNight. #Drmanhattan played by (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Highlighted black history many people did not even know about. #DwayneMcDuffie made sure that there were brown faces on the pages and on tv. If we get other shows, will they last past 3 or 5 seasons.
Predominantly black shows do not get longevity so imagine what it is like in the comic book world or animation or sci-fi. Currently only 4 predominantly black shows have made it past 7 seasons to date. That is Girlfriends, Family matters, The Cosby show and Tyler Perry’s House of Pains making it to 12 seasons. I love the #milesmorales spiderman comic book. While much of the Tom hollands Peter parker Spiderman movies took stole from the miles Spiderman comics, I still how they do Miles's justice if he ends up in live action. I hope that black characters in animation or live action or the comics make waves. That when can see different ethnicities in romantic settings and it doesn’t mean the other partner has to be always white. I hope comics stop making black characters sidekicks or token characters. I want to see live action or animated series with black characters.
